A Quilted Garden
The Art Quilts of Ann Fahl
October 5—December 30, 2011

Ann Fahl is a prize winning art quilter and author
from Racine, Wisconsin. As a beginning quilter in
1978, she started out with traditional patchwork
and appliqué. Her quilts have evolved into heavily
embroidered pieces over a patchwork background.
Ann’s joy in working with color, texture, and fiber is
reflected in her quilts; they emerge from her life,
surroundings and childhood memories. Much of her
work includes four themes: large birds, fans,
botanical imagery and the geometry of triangles.
She enjoys mixing machine piecing, appliqué,
embroidery, and quilting with hand beading.

Together : Canadian Fibre Artists
Paired with Artists of Other Media

September 28—December 30, 2011

“Together” is a collaborative exhibition that pairs individuals
working in textiles, quilts, and fibre with those whose mediums
include paint, wood, mixed media, pottery, and glass–all of
them Canadian. Some of the artists began with words or a
phrase: “Orchid,” “Stone Threads,” or “Runes, Wings, & Keys.”
Many sought inspiration from the organic and abstract patterns
found in nature and landscapes, while others deal with issues like
ocean pollution, pine-beetle devastation, and deforestation.
This thought-provoking exhibition, years in the making, was guest
-curated by Vivian Kapusta.
